Firefox 4 and Capture Fox
April 28, 2011
Hi All,
Many users sent emails or wrote comments about the compatibility of Capture Fox with Firefox 4.
I wanted to give some information about the latest status of Capture Fox and the new version, v0.8 which is FF 4 compatible.
As Capture Fox users know, version 0.7 is not compatible with Firefox 4 and it was released so much time ago, on 11th of December, 2009. This is more than a year. Currently, there are about 25.000 active users of Capture Fox and it was downloaded over 400.000 times at the AMO web site. This shows that version 0.7 was quite successful despite the fact that it only works on Windows.
Today, many users upgrade to the great browser, Firefox 4 and also uses Capture Fox are demanding Capture Fox to be compatible with Firefox 4. So, I developed version 0.8 and put it on AMO web site to be reviewed about 10 days ago. Since then, some users downloaded and tried it. They even wrote some nice comments about it. But two days ago, AMO editors removed Capture Fox v0.8 from the versions listing. Because it included binary components and the source code of these binaries were needed to be reviewed, they said. I sent the source code as well as the previous one and started to wait for the add-on to be approved. But God knows when it’ll be approved. I’m still waiting and hope that it gets approved soon.
With the new version, I also renewed the web site (www.capturefox.com) a little bit, updated the documentation (FAQ and help). You can see the new features of v0.8 at www.capturefox.com/help. A tiny but very important feature has been added in the new version. Capture Fox now can be controlled from a web page which means that it can be started or stopped without the need of a user generated click. The details are at www.capturefox.com/help/developers.html. I guess and hope that this feature will be a loved one among developers and software testers.

Zafer

Using Capture Fox with ZoomIt
December 16, 2009
Recently, I’ve come across a blog post about using Capture Fox with a tiny yet very useful utility, called ZoomIt.
ZoomIt is used to zoom the screen and annotate on it. You can zoom to a specific region and draw freely on that region. Imagine doing this while capturing your screen with Capture Fox. These two tools supplement each other very well.
You can download ZoomIt from the following address:

Capture Fox has lots of supporters from all over the world.
They send feature requests, bug reports to us, and donate to support our development efforts.
They help us document how to use Capture Fox, too. The following video tutorial has been prepared by one of our users. Thank you, Azuka. This is really great!

New version, finally!
November 25, 2009
It’s been a long time before releasing a new version. But finally, it’s out, version 0.7. As I wrote in my previous blog post, there are important features that deserve to be checked out.
Besides those features, some bug fixes have been made, some exception handling routines have been added. This time you will find Capture Fox a more stable and a more productive tool.
You can download the new version from here. Since it’s not been approved yet by the Mozilla editors, you need to check the “Let me install this experimental add-on” checkbox to activate the download button.
I thank the community for their support. After I’ve made donation option visible on the add-on page, we’ve received some donation (not so much actually
) and that’s really motivated us. It’s not the amount of donation we’ve received so far that’s important but it’s the proof of value in Capture Fox.

Preview of the New Features (v0.7)
October 15, 2009
Hi,
I wanted you to know on what we are working right know. The following snapshots show the new features, that I find very useful. Click on them to enlarge.
1. You will be able to select a page region to capture. For example, you need to capture only a specific portion of a web page, like a flash animation, then this feature is what you are looking for. Click on the browser region option, click the link, and then select the region with your mouse.
2. You will be able to determine when capturing process starts. You can enter a delay time, so that Capture Fox doesn’t start as soon as you click on Start Capturing. It waits for you to be prepared. You can set Capture Fox to start when you minimize Firefox window, and stop it when Firefox window gets focus. This is an amazing feature which makes Capture Fox a real screencasting tool. With that feature, you can capture your screen and Firefox window is not displayed in the output video at all.

Friendfeed and Twitter pages
September 21, 2009
After launching a new web site for Capture Fox at www.capturefox.com, I created Twitter and Friendfeed accounts to announce the latest developments. Also, you can read the blog to get the latest news.
You can ask why I chose to create 3 different mediums to communicate. Let me summarize it: Twitter for version updates, friendfeed for aggregating twitter status updates and news from the blog, and the blog for detailed announcements.
I advise you to subscribe to the Friendfeed feed to get all of the updates and news in one package.
You can reach the Friendfeed page at friendfeed.com/capturefox and the Twitter page at twitter.com/capturefox.
Cheers,
Zafer
